2025 Tax Deadlines for Tax Year 2024

Individuals & Self Employed

Nonprofits (990)
  • Overachievers rejoice! The IRS will begin accepting e-filed income tax returns on January 27, 2025

  • Drum roll, please. Individual tax returns are due this year on April 15, 2025. Extensions must also be filed by this date.

    The IRS does offer some tax relief for those in disaster situations. You can access all those details directly from the IRS website

    April 15, 2025 is also the last day to make any retirement account contributions to traditional IRA, Roth IRA, and HSA accounts. 

  • Anyone self-employed or with income that requires quarterly estimated taxes, make sure you submit online or postmark your 2025 estimated tax payments by these dates: 

    January 15, 2025 - 4th Quarter 2024 Payment Due
    April 15, 2025 - 1st Quarter Payment Due
    June 16, 2025 - 2nd Quarter Payment Due
    September 15, 2025 - 3rd Quarter Payment Due
    January 15, 2026​ - 4th Quarter 2025 Payment Due

    IRS Direct Pay for Estimated Tax Payments

  • You may file for an extension up through tax day, April 15, 2025. If you file an extension, you will have until October 15, 2025, to submit your 2023 tax return.

    NOTE: This is just an extension of TIME to file the return, not an extension to PAY. If you owe tax and file an extension without paying the tax due, penalties and interest may be applied.

  • If you filed an extension, make sure to e-file or postmark your return by October 15, 2025.

For Profit (1065, 1120, 1120S)

Nonprofits, Social Enterprises, Businesses

  • ​If you have employees, make sure you give them copies (or notify them if they agreed to receive electronic copies) of their Forms W-2 and file the Form W-3 with the IRS by January 31, 2025.

  • It’s a gig economy out there! If you worked with independent contractors (non-employees) and paid them $600 or more in a year, you may need to file the 1099-NEC with the contractors by January 31, 2025.

    Form 1099-NEC, Nonemployee Compensation

  • Businesses may be required to file 1099-MISC forms for certain types of other payments, including rent, royalties, and interest, to name a few. These forms are due to the payee by January 31, 2025.

  • C Corporations or other entities taxed as C corporations must file their Form 1120 by 15th day of the 4th month following the end of its tax year (or the immediately following business day). For calendar year businesses, this is April 15, 2024.

    ​​NOTE: 
    If a 6-month extension is requested, the extension must be filed by the initial due date of the return.

  • Both partnerships and S corporations must file their tax returns by 15th day of the 3rd month following the end of its tax year (or the immediately following business day). For calendar year businesses, this is March 17, 2025.

    ​NOTE: 
    If a 6-month extension is requested, the extension must be filed by the initial due date of the return.

    Form 1120-S, U.S. Income Tax Return for an S Corporation

  • Nonprofit organizations can file Form 990 on the 15th day of 5th month following the end of its tax year.

    For example: 

    • If the organization operates on a calendar year (Jan-Dec), the initial due date of the 990 is May 15th (or the immediately following business day).

    • If the organization operates on a different fiscal year (Jul-Jun) as its tax year, the return would be due on November 15th (or immediately following business day). 


    ​NOTE: If a 6-month extension is requested, the extension must be filed by the initial due date of the return.
